Bettina Gray has studied music since early childhood gaining performance experience in piano, voice, clarinet and guitar. After graduating with an applied degree in voice she continued post-graduate studies in composition and orchestration with master composer, David Sheinfeld * Her musical compositions cover a wide range of styles with an eclectic and adventurous musical taste. Her most recent works were premiered in Costa Rica by the Primavera Quartet, August 2014 and in January of 2016 with the Slavyanka Russian Chorus in San Francisco. She currently teaches composition privately.
Early music studies and performance in piano from the age of 5, clarinet (age 9), voice (age 14) and in concert and jazz bands, concert and chamber chorus, madrigal singers, broadway musical productions and folk/rock performance.
Undergraduate studies in music and music education with piano emphasis and additional instructional studies in winds, brass, percussion and strings. Graduated with B.A. (Voice) from California State University, Hayward. Secondary studies in psychology and music and dance therapy (with autistic children).
Twelve years private study at post graduate level in music counterpoint, composition, orchestration and theory with master composer David Sheinfeld ; (1974 -1985) including a comprehensive study and analysis of the works of Bach, Mozart, Beethoven, Wagner, Stravinsky, Ravel, Debussy, Schoenberg, and Berg. and four years private post-graduate study in piano with concert pianist Roy Bogus; 1976 -1980.
Musical performance experience under conductors Seji Ozawa, Harold Carter, Denis DeCoteau, Frederic Balazs, and Paul Solomonovich. Electronic compositional techniques and studio production with John Whiting, [sound producer for Electric Phoenix] in London.
Instrumental experience: clarinet, flute, guitar, violin and french horn.
Solo performances and teaching/coaching experience in voice, piano, wind and stringed instruments include classical, jazz, Broadway musicals, folk, and avant-garde works.

Recipient of Yamaha Music Corporation’s Outstanding Teacher award. Wrote curriculum for Yamaha’s U.S. early childhood music program.
Currently Composer-in-Residence with Slavyanka Russian Chorus.
