Born 1964. Live in Northumberland UK. Physicist by profession but also a keen pianist and choral singer and have been composing since age 11.
Although I did Physics as a degree, I also have music A level, grade 8 piano and spent as much time in the music department as the physics department whilst at university. Ever since I could read music, it’s been my habit to listen to music following the score, which significantly helps understand what’s going on in musical composition. I’ve also privately studied composition and orchestration in my own time and have always sung in both choral societies and chamber choirs since I was 11.
My music is tuneful, tonal, sometimes edgy or with a little humour or rich textures and has been praised by other composers, music teachers and other fans.
Apart from the larger scale work and some of the solo piano pieces, most of my music has been played with friends or at concerts/parties/weddings etc. so it has been performed in public and stood the test of being playable and enjoyed by listeners. I also test these pieces out on composer forums and they get good reviews there. My piano concerto has gone down very well with reviewers, but I’ve only been dabbling with orchestral music for the joy of composition – most of my pieces are written for small groups to play and are not too tricky!
Music A-level. Grade 8 piano. Private study. Decades of composing, playing and singing.
